When was the last time an inter-league representative match was played? I saw a small piece in the hand-book about rules for these matches etc, but i cant recall one ever being played. And how would the team or squad be chosen in the event of one of these matches actually happeneing?? And who would pick it??

Any thoughts?

That could be a good end of season thing, Like an all star game that they have in the USA. You could have like a little tournoment between the 5 league. Someone may beleive that the Prem (all star) team would win it but it would probablyt be queit close i reckon.

Good Topic, Would be good to see this happen.

The last inter-league match was about 5 or 6 seasons ago.   But I don't think that involved the Charnwood League - I believe that was between the Alliance League and the Hinckley Sunday League. could be wrong, but i think that's about right Confused  I think the last time the Charnwood League was involved in a representative match was about 8-9 years ago (maybe longer)!!

The squad would be chosen by the respective League Committees.  They would have to request someone's help as to actually "managing" the team (an existing manager volunteering their services) is concerned - the "Manager" would then choose the starting XI out of the full squad chosen by the League.  That being said, the League could appoint a representative (ie: an existing manager/secretary of a club) to actually pick out the full squad (seeing as they would have first hand knowledge of the players!).

Just think, if 3 or more players were ever selected for this type of match, your league game could be called off by you/the league (without being penalised!) if you so wished because they took more than 2 of your players Wink

I would personally love to see a League Representative Match between the Leagues for ALL Divisions (rather than just a Premier division line-up like most of those matches end up being!)...... anyone else think that's worth watching?

I think it's a good idea and I am happy to 'lobby' the Management Committee

I personally think it would be a good idea...if only players from all divisions were selected and not just a 'dream team' as on this forum there has been links to in the last few days, thats probably where this idea has come from.
If the side had representation from all the divisions i think it would help the league in the long run...i think i can remember the last game it was about 10 years ago..and i am sure i was on the fringe of playing but my manager would not let me play....

Definitely worth bringing up at the next meeting i reckon steve? There could be representative sides from each division playing their respective divisions in other leagues. for example, Charnwood Div 2 Select v Alliance Div Two Select, and so on.I think it would be a great idea for an end of season showpiece, maybe even as a charity fundraiser?

Id gladly offer my services in some way shape or form.

I posted a thread on this a long time ago I'll have to have a look on where it it.

It definately should be a go'er. A committee formed with representatives from each division. These representatives elect a management structure and then, in turn, the best players from the teams in the division.

Easily a winner this is. I'm sure the County FA would put up for a trophy. They used to do the Inter Club Championship and I'm sure with £2 fee on the gate it would raise revenue especially at the bar. I'm more than happy to put my name in the hat for anything to do with this.

In fact I'm sure Wes would as well if he's about Wes?

Perhaps the 'player of the season' from each club within their own division should be nominated to represent the league within a divisional team. If we have good relations, for example with the Alliance league, we could have divisional head to head games. This would ensure All clubs are represented and not the select few.

An Inter divisional champions league you mean?

Top 2/3 of each league play each other?

Plenty of scope for this big time

If you held it at County FA and only charged £2 entry, it would not end up with much revenue for the represented Leagues to share Confused   You would need to charge a little more to make the organisation/efforts by both Leagues worthwhile... because County won't offer their ground for free! And takings behind the bar will only go to County, not the Leagues (probably?).

That's why they were usually held at a league ground capable of taking of a gate (eg: Heather?) and then the League could earn more revenue from the events.  And don't forget, the players would be playing for the love of the game, they and their clubs would not get anything from it - all proceeds end up with the represented Leagues (not that that's a bad thing!)

Maybe something for the Leagues to discuss when they see each other at the next Council Meeting at CFA? Wink Laughing

BUT... it's certainly something I would pay to watch Smile

Does it even have to be about money/revenue?? I think there are enough idiots throwing money at local football ( no names mentioned but ex-managers at Thurnby Rangers, Scrappy Garage and ADY should hang their heads in shame and perhaps current managers/Director of football?? at Thurmaston Town too) on saturdays and sundays and its ruining the game.Surely it should be more about promoting local football and maybe, just maybe, local bragging rights??? Money should not come into it in my opinion.

That's true. And if it were realistically possible, that would be great to have once again.  Unfortunately, even our local game is becoming more business-like Sad  Without the money, things won't happen.  Sad, but true.  Just wait till 2012 Exclamation Shocked  Then it'll get interesting to see if Leicestershire (and all other counties of course!) maintain the current number of Leagues.  Personally, I doubt it very much Sad

The county fa ran a competition back in the late ninties .Which replaced the league representative teams playing each other with that of the champions of each league representing their leagues.Played on a wednesday night at holmes park, eight leagues entered teams. Birstall Stamford represented the charnwood league. They won it three years on the trot and after that didn't enter it again. The competition then folded a year later due to lack of take up by the leagues
