16 August friendlyI reffed a friendly this evening, and it was challenging, to put it mildly. The players seemed to think that the laws of the game would be different because it was a friendly!
The away team won 3-0 and there were a total of 6, yes 6, cautions and 1 dismissal  . It was very challenging, but if I want to improve as a ref, then these type of matches sometimes can be a good thing, the same as any other ref.

Are you not naming the teams involved for legal reasons?
Since you mention it, what are the rules regarding cautions/dismissals in friendlies being applicable to a proper league/cup game?
And, if a player has a caution from last season, does this prevent him from playing in pre-seaosn games?
Just curious...

Teams can be mentioned if the author wishes to do so - merely personal choice.
Cautions / Dismissals gained from a friendly is exactly the same as gaining one in a proper League or Cup Competition and could result in a person being suspended right at the start of a new season (hence the general leniency from referees in friendlies).
Suspension dates are provided to Clubs (and may I add, the Leagues  ) regarding anyone being suspended... something that the County FA are beginning to do is to begin the suspensions at the beginning of a new season rather than applying them during the closed season (they finally caught on!).
The suspension date(s) will tell you whether they can play pre-season friendlies or not (if their suspension does not begin until early September, then they can officially play in August friendlies as the ban has not yet taken effect).

In response to Celtic_Steve, Whenever I post I won't name the teams, this is a personal choice. I have told the teams that I have reffed that the laws of the game are still the same whether the match is a friendly, league or cup. If a report for a dismissal is received and upheld during the close season, then the CFA will decide if and when a suspension starts.

I'll make sure my lads keep their studs down then.
I know players can be passionate (I certaninly am both on and off the pitch) but I just can't see how anyone could get themselves in a position where they'd need anything more than a quiet word from the ref in a friendly, or rather un-friendly, pre-season game. 
I saw in another post that missj fines her players for dissent - I think I might try that policy too.
I'm not saying that referees are always right (after all, who would? ) but once the whistle has been blown I've always said there's no point in arguing - the decision, right or wrong, has been made.
BTW the 'legal' thing was a joke, but I forgot that refs have no sense of humour.

it seems to work last season when we introduced it only 2/3 players got the extra fine once they realised we were serious it calmed them down and so we decided to carry it on this season we all abuse the ref over his decisions at some point but there is a point where it goes to far and the ref dont have to be there. If you ask me the game wouldnt be played fair without an official

I must admit, one thing which I always try to remember telling the players / Clubs when I do the "pre-match chat" is that I don't like dissent, and so "politely request" that they wait until they're back in the pub or something before calling me all the bad names in their heads! And to be patient etc etc as every referee makes at least a couple of errors every match.
I don't care what people call me during/after the match, so long as it's not in my ear-shot (otherwise a report has to be made).
After all, you wouldn't expect every referee after every match to say something in the pub like "what an extremely delightful bunch of lads I had there today. I love refereeing those polite individuals!"
Point is it goes both ways, but players have the right to show their passion (within reason of course!) - referees can't otherwise it could be seen as favouritism!!
It may help if clubs did that, but then on the other side of the coin there are referees there just for another payday and not necessarily bothered about a fair and good game! A huge shame when you're a lover of the game (like me)!
