Anything I can do???

I currently have a player who joined us in december, he got booked during december and the club Pied Bull paid the fine at the time on the players promise he would pay at a later date. However the player has decided to leave us and even though I have constantly asked him he still hasn't paid up! Now I don't want to seem tight but the club is £8 down for the fine he hasn't paid and £1.50 subs too he hasn't paid. £9.50 not alot I know but at the end of the day the club is on a tight budget and needs every penny it can get! Without getting.....violent......is there anything I can do? I don't wish to get the player in trouble on purpose but I have to look after the club, especially financially

Regards

Hmm, always a tricky one. How you handle it depends entirely on what your relationship is with the player concerned.

As far as I know, there is no way to get the money out of the player however if you report him to the league then he can be suspended for a period of time from the date of the money owed.

If they still don't pay up then technically they can't play for another team anyway; when a player fills in a signing-on form they have to fill in he bot that says "I last played for ... and am clear on their books." If he hasn't paid you then he can't sign the form.

Of course, none of this matters if he plays under someone else's name!  Rolling Eyes

Have a chat with him and explain the situation and what it mean financially to you and what the potential pitfalls for his playing future may be if he doesn't pay.

I'm sure you'll come up with the right solution.

To add to Celtic_Steve's reply Webbo, if the split was on "bad terms" or he is being too ignorant of his debts for your liking, you can report the player to County FA -- this must be done within 8 weeks of the date the debt was incurred.

So if it happened 01st Dec, your deadline is fast approaching (end of Jan really).  A Club can make a claim debts owed to the Club, but the Club must send in their claim in writing, along with any written correspondence sent to the Player by the Club requesting the money to be paid, to back up their claim and possibly speed up the process.

The result would be that the player would be (if debts remain unpaid) suspended from football (much like if the League made the claim).  So, as a "last resort" option, you can approach him/put a letter through his letterbox, clearly stating the debts owed (inc. dates) need to be paid ASAP. Remind the player that should you make the claim via CFA and accepted, then that player cannot play for anyone until the debt is paid. - Might make him pay up, or think of stop playing (but for <£10, I don't think he'll retire!).

If you suspect him to be playing for another team in our League (under a different name or not), whilst still registered for you Club, please inform the League and we can investigate it.  If found true, then the player and the other Club would be penalised under League Rules.

It was the 25th November when we played Shepshed United, the player in question came on as a sub and was booked during the game!

25th Jan today....am assuming now too late? Just my luck!

I think it depends on when County FA sent the paperwork to you. It may be that that is when the debt starts from, but I can't be 100% sure. It may be worth finding out from them.

The caution was picked up on 25/11/07 and that is the "start date". Doesn't matter when you receive notification from CFA as it clearly states on that notification the date the caution was received. == Start date = date owed to Club not owed to CFA

This means the £8 is not claimable -- if the subs were for the same match date or earlier, then you cannot claim for that either.
