Man Utd v Reading

Just watched the match and fair play to Reading, they sat behind the ball and defended very well, unfortunately. The main talking point is, did you think that Kitson deserved to get sent off? I know I support Man Utd, but I thoughtn that the ref made the right decision.
Little_Bloke, you can say I told you so!!

Mr. Green Mr. Green

TOLD YA SO!!! 3-1..... knew you were dreaming!

Anyway, I am extremely happy with the point and think that we were (lucky but...) deserving of it. Good ol' Hahnemann!

In answer to your question... unfortunately, yes he thoroughly deserved the red card! It was extremely wreckless and dangerous. Those are the kind of tackles that we need to be very careful with as referees. And as players, you wouldn't want to see anyone (your team or the oppositions') receive that kind of tackle -- be honest now!

By the way RefSec, in case you didn't know.... Man Utd are in the lowest position out of the "Big Four"! Hehehehe

well done boys thought reading did very well to hold man utd even with 10 men but as was said through the match several times that is the kind of challenge you will see many times through the season i think it very unfair that many more will do this and not get sent off so no i disagree entirely that the ref was right i think that they just tried to make an example of kitson!!!!! Thanks for the reading comment -- WE'RE GOING TO FINISH 14th THIS SEASON and stay in the Premiership yet another year!!!!!

So if that happens to a footballer in grassroots football (your team player for example), you would be okay with a referee talking to or just cautioning the player committing the foul?

Surely not Question Exclamation

I'm talking as a current player, referee, reading fan and genuine lover of the beautiful game when I say that that challenge should be considered on an individual basis - on this occassion, the player (Kitson) appeared to make no real attempt to block the ball being played - that's why he got the Man Utd players' foot! - It can't be said in his defence that he was just a split second late -- it's well known that to block a ball being punted downfield, you block the ball and not aim for the players' feet? Other occassions may only warrant a caution or stern talking to, but only when a genuine attempt for the ball has been seen to be made.

I agree that many referees in the premier league will not punish other players that do the same thing in the future, but it doesn't alter the fact that those kinds of challenges should be penalised almost as harshly as a 2-footed tackle...

It can break legs (at the greatest extent, even end careers) -- if it was a genuine effort for blocking the ball, he wouldn't have gone in at the feet of the Man Utd player Question dontknow

i see what your saying but i think the card spoilt a good match

With Mr. Stiles reffing the match, I expected the red card to be shown! But if it was a yellow card instead, maybe we could have tried to nick a goal near the end when Man Utd were pushing forward so much? Nah, I'm probably dreaming again!

You're quite correct missj, from my perspective, it certainly ruined the match but there you go... it happens.

Being a Man U fan myself I am normally always in agreement with the ref concerning happenings to the opposition. However I must say yesterday with the sending off of Kitson was very harsh. As Andy Gray pointed out you will see alot of those kind of challenges this season and players will perhaps receive just a caution.

As for Man U though, I thought resorting to o shea upfront when the club has spent what it has...well what can I say....a little disappointed!

What was it... £50m or £60m?

And why O'Shea up front when he could been slotted somewhere in the middle (considering that's where Ronaldo was most of the time!) and pushed Ronaldo up front -- more pace, quality header of the ball and he has a bit of skill and decent shot power! Only thing to possibly question is composure in a striker's position?

Anyway... If ever Reading were to spend that kind of money (many many years from now!), I would be a tad disappointed myself! Laughing

Totally agree with you. Could of put Ronaldo up top, nani left, carrick scholes middle and flethcer on right, I just hope Tevez get's the introduction we need sooner rather than later!

I wouldn't mind so much if it was one of the other major clubs, but Reading!!!!! No offence Little_Bloke, but we should by rights have won, I will put it down to an off day!Smile

I openly admit that we were more than a tad fortunate to get the point, but the work-rate that day deserved it in my eyes considering Man Utd didn't exactly throw the kitchen sink at us!

Not too sure about it being a bad day, I just think the tactics from Sir Alex were slightly wrong as they seemed to suit our plan of action rather than Man Utd's usual style of play and flair.

Anyway... it's done now, and it's 1 point more than I expected to get from the 2 games against Man Utd!

2 from Liverpool, 1 from Chelsea and 1 from Arsenal and I'm over the moon!! Laughing Laughing

C'Mon you royals!
