Moral DilemaSituation:
Your teams attacking in a 0-0 draw roughly half way through the second half. Your striker goes down injured and the ball rolls through to the keeper who sees your striker rolling around on the floor. Goalkeeper puts the ball behind the goal in order that the player can get treatment. Do you:
A) when the game restarts pass the ball back to the keeper who courteously stopped the game to allow treatment to your injured colleague?
B) Hoof the ball into the local field/brook or as far away from the keeper as you can but at least the opposition has the ball back?
C) What until no ones looking take a short corner and attack the goal?
Probable results
A - 95%
B - 4.99999%
C - 0.00000001%
This happened to us yesterday.
Having deliberately put the call out to get attention to an injured apponent our opposition took a short corner ran into the box. Unaware the game had continued our defender made a tackle for which the ref gave a pen and they subsequently scored. In 30+ years of football I have noted sportsmanship deteriorate, but never have I seen such a deliberate act of ungentlemanly conduct in my life.
GAUNT RESERVES - You should be very, very ashamed of yourselves!
And that's the most polite I can possibly write - absolutely LIVID!!!!!!!

Sheff Utd V Arsenal - game was replayed.
If they want to win like that fair enough. they thought it was hilariously funny.

A similar thing happened to us a couple of seasons ago - we put the ball out for an injured opposition player and from the un-contested throw-in + pass that was supposed to give the ball back to our keeper, the player decided to chip him from 20 yards for their only shot on target, ruining what would have been a clean sheet in a 7-1 victory.
Needless to say, we were not amused. Good job we won the match.
The problem is, that within the laws of the game, the Gaunt players would have been perfectly within their rights to do what they did.
If you think the referee handled the situation inappropriately i suggest you write a report and send it to Iain before this Thursday.

Nothing the ref can say or do to make them give the ball back. Its a case of very bad spotsmanship.

Absolutley Discusting. Some teams nowadays are a disgrace. Regardless of whether this is against the rules or not are irrelevant a team should show good sporting conduct in a situation like this....Maybe Gaunt will get whats comming to them. This only shows you one thing thou mate, they cant win fairly in your divison so they have to resort to playing unfairly.

Not good, i'd be ashamed if i was playing for them.
We had that done to us before a few seasons ago.
But the rest of their side noticed it and let us score a goal to balance things out. The player in question got a severe telling of from his team mates and manager.

Even so, you'd think the ref might have been a bit more clued-up.
If what Matt says is true (and we only have his word for it at the moment) then the ref could have made Gaunt re-take the corner for any number of possible infringements (e.g. he didn't see the ball inside the segment), at least giving Charnwood the chance to fill the box with defenders.
Is that cheating? Maybe, but from the sounds of it, it's no worse than bad sportsmanship on the part of the opposition.
A grey area at best.
Matt - seriously, I would make your grievances known in the form of a report.
Wes - I hope that isn't some sort of fight-talk. I'm cracking down on that more this season. Choose your words carefully pal.

Wes - we played an hour with 10 men as they kicked the living daylights out of our centre midfield, approx 6 fouls against him in the space of 5mins, we had to carry him off. ( and we'd used a sub already ). They had 1 lad sent off and 4 ( I think 4, minimum 3 ) players booked. I think the stats sort of paint a picture.
Steve - I will be contacting the league accordingly. I can assure you 100% that is what happened.

we had problems with these last year. after they scored a 90th minute equaliser one of their players decided to celebrate by spitting in one of our players face. it seems they have no class or common decency.

I think that last comment about sums them up!!!!!
Lets put it this way both my centre mids are reasonably talented, have played senior league standard before and outplayed them, for which their reward was to have their ankles bitten by rotweilers hell bent on kicking lumps out of them. which suceeded as one of them had to be carried off with a swolen ankle.
I agree with Webbo, what goes around comes around.

Dont want to play devils advocate here, but why not.
I have always found the Gaunt lads alright, and we are only getting one side of the story, as to the best of my knowledge no Gaunt players / officials contribute to this forum.
Not that I am doubting Matt and the Charnwood lads as having played agaist them loads of times they are as fair as they come
If what they had done was with intent then fair enough, it is bad sportsmanship, but I would be interested to hear their side of the story
So come on Gaunt where are you? I think someone who knows any of their lads should encourage them to come on and make their peace, or not if they feel justified in their actions?

Matt, I have PMd you, and currently I can only comment from a referee's point of view. Unfortunately there is nothing wrong with what your opponents did within the laws of the game. However, it does seem that the spirit of the game has been broken and personally I would do something along the lines of what Celtic Steve has said. The referee can only stop the game if he deems the injury serious enough, otherwise it is up to the players what they do with the ball. While there are 17 laws of the game, usually I do think the most important one is Law '18'- Common Sense (not that those of you have seen me ref would agree!!) but the referee is limited as to what he can do in this situation.

Having played Gaunt Reserves this sunday i can say they are not a dirty in my opinion, they seem like young lads that get stuck in and give it there all and nothing more. On the other hand i felt we were more than getting the upper hand in the induviual battles so watch this space when we play the when we play Charnwood foresters??? hahaha

Teams should take a leaf out of the mighty Leicester's book after allowing the dirty trees to score a free goal in the league cup replay 2 years ago.
The Sheff Utd Arsenal game was replayed after big protestsmade by Warnock etc, and I don't think Winger wanted to replay it. Megson voluntarily gave For*st their free goal.
And we still won
