Pitch Fees & Season ExpenditureI saw a report on Sky Sports News today about how much some people have to pay for pitch fees. It got me thinking. Personally, I think paying a pitch fee is acceptable to cover basic booking administration, lawnmower petrol and line lime. However for the money we pay I think it is borderline extortion. This is especially true when you add the cost of a mid-week astro pitch into the equation.

The site article doesn't cover much, I was hoping for something as in-depth as the TV report but couldn't find it. Maybe you could tune in tonight and watch it if you have digital TV.
There was another debate regarding club resignations on this forum and the general running costs of a club weren't mentioned. When you add the league registration/affiliation costs, insurance, pitch fees and referee's expenses then you are looking at around £1200 a year. That's before training pitch fees and your other one-off costs for 2 kits, match-balls, goal-nets, water bottles, first-aid kit etc. We've done quite well for sponsorship this season thanks to the fund-raising efforts of our affiliated pub, The Griffin Inn, Loughborough. Without this money we would have really struggled this season and I think that is wrong and counter-productve for a league that hopes to grow beyond it's current tally of 49 teams in the coming years.
Arsene Wenger's point was that in France, grass-roots football is subsidised by the government, whereas in this country it isn't. So, I would like to begin a debate on the issue of Sunday football costs and, if we get enough momentum, maybe do something about it.
Over to you guys...

I happen to know that subsidisation is not only in place in France, however I doubt that in the next few years that England will make (or be able to make) this massive change. To back the CFA up a little (not that they really need it), there is something in place which will assist the Leagues in the near future from CFA and this will be a tremendous help to all registered Leagues. I will check the link and watch out for it on Sky.
I would imagine anywhere in the region of £1100 - £1400 a season is about average at the moment. I do believe that the Clubs are being hung, drawn and quartered in numerous areas (in my opinion only, not speaking on behalf of the League).
I do have some ideas that I will be raising at the appropriate time to the Committee that I feel could help the Clubs (only slightly to begin with... but it all helps!) with their financial concerns...
This is (to a VERY small degree) why I wanted to try this "Team of the Month" feature... so all Clubs have the same opportunity to receive FREE equipment from the League (even though it's only a match ball, or a set of goal nets, or some bottles/bottle carrier, etc etc!). This is just one of many (and actually probably the smallest idea) that I have to try and assist our member Clubs. I tried the smallest idea first to "test the waters" with the Clubs.
There are many ways of skinning a cat, and the lack of support from the member clubs can be the only reason for my ideas not working... finding people/companies for sponsorship etc can all be done - it just requires a bit of time and a heck of a lot of effort!

It would be good to hear some of your ideas Steve, I just hope that your reply doesn't prevent any further discussion on the topic - I am keen to know what other club members think about the general financial commitment required to sustain a club.

I hope not too.... they are only my opinion(s), and I am also very interested in hearing how this goes on.
If the other clubs can raise enough points, and debate it thoroughly, then you never know... it could be used to help us all in the near future?
Please post your views here, no matter how you're connected to a club (an officer, a player, the water boy.... doesn't matter!) - even if you've previous experience on helping to run a club on sundays... join in the debate and put across your views. WE NEED EVERYBODY'S VIEWS ON THIS ONE...
I will allow leniency on this topic as I think it deserves leeway with the possible replies... we need to hear what everybody thinks so we can maybe do something about it.

What if you dont have a pub . . , ,Hi all,
I would like to stick my 2 penneth worth in. Now Loughborough Rovers and formerly JMS Colts, I have found the last 3 years financially very difficult. The point is that i don’t have a team of big drinkers therefore trying to a pub to sponsors us is a slightly contradictory if we cant commit to going to the pub.
The reason i mention a pub is that is where, it would seem, is how a lot of clubs seem to come by sponsors. If you rule out pubs there then seems to be a very small market that you can appeal to. So not for the want of trying, I have been unable to get a sponsor in the last 3 years so therefore that has led to me being out of pocket, I mean there is only so much you can pass on to the players, i don’t mind funding to much as i do actually ........ well it goes without saying how much we all love the beautiful game.
If i have missed anything or any avenues please tell me, so far I have
- Put up posters
- Tried my work
- Asked players to try their place of work
- Contacted local companies
So as I have found out there is no easy solution, I mean my persuasion skills are not that bad due to my job but there are 1001 reasons why someone will not sponsor you but only a handful that will.
Instead of relying on things that might happen below are a couple of ideas for the mix that might help us to be pro active in helping with the financial burden
1. The main thought is to have a central pool of equipment held by the league/individual for clubs that are less fortunate or who are in need of help in certain areas
2. A fun day to help raise the funds where we could have lots of events and local businesses come along, making it like a networking event almost. With this I believe there are many things we could do.
I can elaborate further on this if anyone cares to comment however thee are 2 quick ideas upon reading the post
Peace out

All views and ideas can be posted here - be as detailed as possible when making suggestions so we can think on how plausible the ideas are.
I have made a post on this forum already about centralised buying of equipment etc... so if you can elaborate on all your ideas Mark, that would be very useful.
Also, have you tried to get sponsorship via the league website and any other websites you are related to (work, personal, set up your personal blog, set up a club blog etc etc). Power of the Net is surprising to most!
Now I've gone slightly off debate, let's get back on track...! Sorry for that

lets expand a littleI must admit after replying to this topic i did see your post about centralised pool of equipment. As the league have sponsors , as an added element to there sponsorship what is the liklehood the league could get a kit with there logo on etc? the price of the kit would be built into the sponsorship, therefore the company get another advertising opportunity and potentially, a team already in the league or a new team get a new kit?
A "Funday" for want of a better word, can consists of many things to raise money for the centralised pot. I am sure throughout the league we have alot of contacts to make this day, things like bouncy casltes "special guest's" fund raising match I.E. a charnwood league select v's ?.
There are loads more things to do but i must admit i think we are missing an annual 5 a side tournament?
With the amount of teams we have in the area and with a little advertising/press space, think of the amount of people that would ppotentially attend. That would also be a great pull for some local businesses to have stands there etc
If then we raise enough money there then becomes an opportunnity to talk about subsidised Ref's / pitches for some of the teams that are finding it difficult to afford a whole season. At the end of the day its about getting more peopple to do something they enjoy and make the league more competitive and appealing, well at least there my thoughts. . . .
let me know what you think.
Also thank you for the ideas
