Shouts of "Snap Him " Wright or Wrong?

Is it just me or are shouts of "snap him" followed by a  . . . .(lets say crude) challenge wrong?

twice today this happened where the challenge followed however there were a couple of times this was "shouted" and they missed!!

Might just be me and getting old but I think snap him is a bit far . . . .

It is wrong because if he did get "snapped" then it would be pretty bad.

cooling how did your res team get on today ?? martin barton f.c p.s snap him should be classed as a yellow card and a free kick to the other team just for that person being a dick

To be fair the ref wasnt to bad today but he said he couldnt cuation him as he didnt know who shouted it as he was following the game . . .

Interesting question Mark.

I think that if the ref sees who said it, then what Iain says is right.

The topic gets interesting when...

1. Someone in the 'crowd' shouts it - what then? It happens all the time at professional football matches. Is it acceptable then?

2. They shout something else, like "crunch him" or "smash him". At what point in the (limited) footballing verncular does "put in a really strong challenge" turn into "make sure he never walks again"?

3. There is no discernable difference in the ferocity of the challenge whether someone shouts anything or not. If a player had it in his mind to "snap him" anyway - what difference does it make?

Playing Devil's Advocate, you could argue that the shout could be construed as a goading of your own players rather than malicious intent towards the oppo; I know a few lads who couldn't tackle their breakfast and shouting "snap him" as they approached an oppo player would probably result in laughter from the sidelines (and some of the pitch).

In summary I think any discipline imparted as a result of this would have endless grounds for appeal.

Steve.

PS - Good topic, lets see some more of this sort of thing on the forum.

I agree good topic and strangely educated than the usual tosh on here.

I'll hold my hands up to using "we go thru them' but I wouldn't want to see opposition players ending up with serious injuries.

In my defence tho my players know what I demand of them and when "go thru him" simply means that I need the opposition stopped with a hard but fair challenge. My back up for this argument is that not one of my players in any of my sides has ever been guilty of maliciously injuring amy player.

Again, good thread

im really bad for this, but shout 'break him', i dont actually mean it, last thing i want to see is people hurt on a sunday morning. it just gets frustrating when your a goalkeeper & no one puts in an attempt to win the ball. referees have gave me a slap on the wrists for this.
