Somewhere to trainDoes anybody know of anywhere (locally) I can take my lads for a training session once a week? I have tried the following places but no joy!
Loughborough College - Rubber Crumb
Loughborough University - Rubber Crumb
Whitwick Hermitage - Astro Turf
Golf Rage Loughborough - Rubber Crumb
Mountsorrel Leisure Centre - Astro Turf

Quorns' ground (can't remember whether it's crumb or astro or what, but maybe they have slots available)?

Yeah, good luck with that.
There is a dearth of good, available training pitches in Loughborough. I'm in the same boat Webbo, I just ring round every week and take whatever cancellations I can get.
The summer's fine because there's no students and, let's face it, you can pretty much train anywhere there's grass. But as soon as the students are back and as soon as you need need lights to see then you're stuffed.
I don't know how much it costs to build and run an astro pitch, but I'm sure that it wouldn't take long in Loughborough to get your money back through demand.
Just for info I tried to block-book a slot in Quorn's astro pitch in July and was told I'd have to on a waiting list because the 2007/2008 season was already booked!
One thing you should look at, in all seriousness, is indoor pitches. They aren't ideal, but at least you get to knock the ball around. The leisure centre have one as do most schools & colleges.
I think the league should get some preference at some places. Or, maybe we could chip in with a couple of other clubs for a generator and some spotlights and we could all train in the park.

Hmmmm.... my mind's ticking away.... can you all hear it tick..tick...tick -- my mind doesn't work properly (as those who know me already know ), that's why there's never a "tock" after the "tick"!
Seriously, local Sunday morning football is a long way away from being able to facilitate something like this.
There is an idea that is possible though (mentioned by Steve), but would require the clubs to pay upfront as the League could not realistically afford to pay for it on behalf of the clubs (not 100% anyway!). It may be possible if the League AND the (cluster of) Clubs contributed 50% each... then the League would officially pay the organisation and then re-charge it to the Clubs on a weekly or monthly basis (for the 50% that the League contributed!). The major problem would be that the Clubs would need to contact the organisation/League with ample notice of intent of using the facilities, no damage would occur to the property of the organisation and that the Clubs would be "tied in" to HAVING to use the facilities for a minimum set amount per month... and if your having difficulties getting players to the match itself, then you're gonna struggle immensely to get them to training!
Too many downfalls for this, so in my humble opinion, a definite NO-GO... you're all more than welcome to try and prove me wrong if you wish.
