An impressive start to the match by the Falcons saw numerous half-chances fly by, and they could have felt slightly agrieved to have gone into the break at 0-0.

Then, as is typical in this beautiful game, with only a few minutes after the second half kicked off, Hathern FC took the lead with some smart thinking by the Senior League team. A lot of good football was played - especially in the first half - but the Falcons never let their heads drop! Chances came and went for both teams, but with about 10-15 minutes left to play, the Falcons equalised with a very well taken goal.

Even then, another couple of chances went begging for both teams. As the Competition Rules state, if the match is tied after the 90 minutes it goes straight to penalties!

Hathern FC went first and scored... 1-0. Falcons next... 1-1.
Hathern again... SAVED!!!!!! Still 1-1. Falcons next... 1-2.
Hathern again... 2-2. Falcons next... 2-3.
Hathern with their 4th..... 3-3. Falcons now..... 3-4.

Hathern under pressure of being eliminated... score! 4-4.
Falcons under pressure - score the last penalty and WIN!!! - GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4-5 in the Falcons favour!

What a victory for Loughborough Falcons, beating Senior League - Div One - side Hathern FC on penalties 5-4!! Full-time and AET was 1-1.

A superb victory for the Charnwood Sunday Football League club, and they will go on to face the winner of Loughborough Dynamo FC or Sileby Town FC in the semi-final... another stern test, one of which I'm sure we will get the Falcons through by showing our support to the Falcons at the next Charity Cup match!

And of course... I have to mention that thanks go to all the people who came to watch the match. That 1 match alone raised around £250, and thanks must go to Shepshed Dynamo for the use of their ground for this match in the Loughborough Charity Cup match!

I was there, and recorded the penalties using a mobile phone!..... I will be posting this onto the forum AND our website next week sometime (I have to try and get the swearing etc muted/bleeped before posting it!! Laughing).
