Has to be Gerrard.He has everything.Tackling, passing, heading, creativity, goals, pace, dead-ball delivery, the ability to single-handedly win games, loyalty, work ethic, stamina, leadership, and also that little bit of a nasty streak which most top pro`s have, nobody comes near him for me.

Cesc, at his age gerrard wasn't half as good, big players do it on the big stage, euro 2008 final, cesc won the game for Spain say mo more!

Good point wes, but in Euro 2008 he was surrounded by class players in the spanish team.Gerrard won the Champions league single-handedly whilst surrounded by players as poor as Biscan,Traore,Mellor, Baros, Smicer, etc.And then almost single-handedly won the FA Cup the following year.

Think am going to avoid the obvious ones in Gerrard and Cesc....hate to say it but Michael Ballack....he struggled his 1st season or two but he is class...to be fair he gets no recognition....just one to think about...

He can pass and move...but he certainly can not head....Ballack to be fair can do the lot....you may argue his tackling isnt the best but apart from that class midfielder....

I didn't say Ballack wasn't any good. Just think that Ireland creates more and scores more goals.
But that depends on what you want from a midfielder I suppose! Who would say Essien is the best midfielder (no-one probably). Would you have him in your team - certainly. Same goes for Owen Hargreaves, when he's not injured.
But I still think Fabregas is the best.
