TRUE STORY
After recently purchasing a new PC from a major computer manufacturer via their website, this person got them to call him to get his card details from him ('cos he doesn't give them out over the 'net). After a case of telephone tag, the sales woman managed to get hold of him. He thought it would be a nice simple card transaction and goodbye... not quite:
Sales woman: "Do you realise that the modem you've selected doesn't have sound support?"
Gentleman: "What exactly does a 'modem with no sound support' mean?"
Sales woman: "It means that if you go on to a web page that has a movie or sound file, you won't be able to hear it."
Gentleman: "What's the modem got to do with it?"
Sales woman: "Well Sir, the modem is what connects you to the internet."
Gentleman: "So you're telling me that this particular modem scans the TCP/IP packets passing through it for those belonging to any sound application and filters them out?"
Sales woman: "Yes."
Gentleman: "How does it accomplish this feat?"
Sales woman: "I'm not technical enough to answer that sir. Please hold."
The gentleman stayed on the line for about 5 minutes and then hung up!
- Needless to say I wouldn't recommend that company to anyone, on the above evidence
